Unix gets Flash
Summary: Until now, Unix geeks could only serve up Flash content. Now they can watch it, too.
Unix users and web content developers are finally to get their hands on Macromedia's ever-popular Flash player.
Flash has become the ubiquitous package for builders of vector-based web sites delivering multimedia, high-end graphics or interactive elements.
Despite Unix-based operating systems acting as the backbone for a large number of electronic commerce and other critical services on the web, Flash support has been conspicuous by its absence -- until now.
Flash Player for various flavours of Unix, including Linux, Solaris and Irix, will be available for free download from Macromedia's website from 1 September.
