Selected Telstra services in Victoria were down this afternoon, affecting a number of the telco's larger customers.
Telstra acknowledged the outage may have affected the internet connections and telephone services of some of its customers, including banks and government departments.
"A number of Telstra's larger customers in Victoria experienced an outage of between 45 minutes and two and a half hours on their data network," the company said in a statement.
The company said that approximately 20,000 ADSL services were also affected by the outage, set off by a hardware failure at around 1:20pm. Services began to be restored at 2:30pm, with all services back up and running by 3:45pm.
Telstra is currently working to find the root cause of the outage. "We sincerely apologise to our customers for the inconvenience and assure them we are continuing to work to understand what happened and why," the company's statement said.
