Ballmer is flat out in denial. He's going to be the ultimate death of Microsoft..all he keeps tooting is Windows, Windows, Windows....
He should be beating the drum for mobility in the enterprise, and he's not doing that....
He's the one screaming that horses are still a great way to get around while everyone else is blasting by him in a Porsche.
IE controls half of the market because most people don't know there are alternatives, or don't want to bother installing them. Mac people are the same way with Safari. People still use it, and will still use it if it's spoon fed to them, until MS has been run into the ground, and people have to find alternatives. I don't think this is going to be very soon- but it will eventually happen.
Hardly. Windows is the most expensive from a TCO standpoint. Cheap to acquire, EXPENSIVE to maintain. The Yugo of the OS arena. Always has been, always will be.
@Random_Walk then maybe she should learn to not do the things that screw it up, as for you PowerMac, Congrats, I had a friend who spend 110 bucks on a keyboard for her powerbook, and I spent more time working on it than I did any of my PC's, so your 1 story of good luck is hardly contradictory to my point.
The comparisons have been done already... Get over it doofus... You are spewing myths...
A Mac compared to its equal PC is about the same price (sometimes less).
And with the Mac you get the ilife suite as well as a much better OS.
Macs last longer and are much cheaper to maintain and own (the TCO studies have been done as well)
Also.. Apple doesn't release patches on a quarterly basis. They release them as needed and that is more often than quarterly. You know nothing about Macs...
Your friend spent 110.00 for a keyboard that production was halted on at least 5 years ago (there are not very many of those left that are not in use or used condition). Your friends powerbook is at least 5 years old and considering you have no experience with a powerbook, it's not suprising it took you awhile to work on it. Also, Apple only keeps parts for 7 years and then you have to get them through a third party.
Also, I can replace any part in any powerbook in less than 40 minutes and that includes reassembly. I can replace the keyboard in less than 4 minutes... So I am left wondering... What was it that you had to do that took sooooooo much time? Perhaps unearthing your thumb from an orifice?
You are incorrect here. The Macs are cheaper to maintain, I have run operations running both systems and have found the Macs require significantly less support then comparable PC. They have a longer useful life span and are generally more reliable. This can be confirmed by Consumer reports surveys and testing. I have also found the Macs to be more user friendly allowing user to more easily solve issues without having to call our help desk. The Mac OS are also more logically laid out then Windows, I believe this is the fault of MS creating overly complicated OS in order to create a training and certification revenue. I will agree that Macs are around 40% (rough estimate) more expensive to buy and are far less upgradable but this is often compensated for by the longer life span and the ability of older Macs to effectively run newer OSX versions. It also goes with out saying that Apple is the leader in computer innovation and design.
An interesting point of comparison, I had a friend who ran IT operation for a University a number of years back. Their lab had equal numbers of Macs and PCs to support and he told me his support budget was 3 times more expensive for the PCs then the Macs. Also for the recorded I have been running PC shops for the last 15 years with only infrequent Mac use so I do consider my opinion pretty even side. Mac just makes a better mouse trap and if they didn't Windows would not have been copying it for the last 20 years.

And those toys were iPads and iPhones, right?
I dreamed I was `San(i)ty Clause, and I too brought kids toys. They were computers which displayed `Ubuntu` on the boot splash screen, and somewhere in the distance I heard Ballmer screaming: "NOOOOOOOOOO"!!!!.

Wikipedia isn't much help, but http://www.ghacks.net/2010/08/02/operating-system-market-share-windows-7-climb-continues/ suggests that Windows is gaining.
Is Mr. Jobs any better? Let's see... Apple introduces the iPhone 4 and consumers immediately notice reception issues. Apple identifies the internal antennae as the source and instead of fixing their obvious design flaw, they blame the end user. "You're holding the phone wrong, idiot!".
Do you remember the recent issues with Toyota vehicles and the accelerator getting stuck, causing accidents with people dying? Imagine if Toyota's response to the consumer was: "You're driving the car wrong, idiot!"
Ballmer's ability to run a business may be questionable, but he's obviously not the only CEO with his head up his a$$.

...(pun intended)
Steve, what about all of us who no longer use or need Microsoft products?
On the iPad, I have one. I am by choice and budget a MS person. The iPad is nice, but I think regardless of how much it gains now, there are problems down the road. Downloading and inability to find WiFi 90% of the time or pay a ransom for 250 mb of bandwidth per month will inevitably slow down buying, regardless of iPad or Anodroid or MS tablets... Why fight to find WiFi to stream a movie when with a laptop with an optical drive you can bring your movies with you. THis was my first major problem.
