Just In
it was just an empty bullet point on a feature list. no one ever used it. have some freinds that have nokia phones, they tried it. didn't work. didn't ever touch it again.
However, later on, nobody seemed to want to do that anymore because its not practical. You wont do video call when you are away or on the road because it's not convenient. And when you are at home, you'd prefer doing video call from the webcam on their PC\laptop anyway since it's more comfortable and the screen are far better.
That, or they've figured out that someone is lying to them.
Next thing you know, they might start wondering if the Received Wisdom might be wrong about the desktop, too.
Tnaks to Apple and it smart idea love apple products
note : can I have one I phone 4 for free plz so i can try it and boast my friend with it /
Thanks Apple and c/o
I've been using it on my 3G phones for the last 5 years or more here in Australia. The last two phones have been HTC and they work well. Employee phones are mainly HTC but my wife's have been Nokia, LG and Motorola. No iToys because our devices are business tools. Network functionality and quality has a lot to do with the success of video calls. We're capital city based so coverage is good. Employees use them a lot when on site with a problem and they want a second opinion. Any of us can look at the issue without having to go on site. Very useful. Works best with phones that can switch between the two cameras. Have to have headset/bluetooth otherwise both sides of the conversation can be overheard. Our call rates are exactly the same as for voice calls - and free within our "fleet".
Welcome to the modern age, Apple (and America). So nice of you to catch up.
Apple is not claiming anything with regard to Video calling other than having it as a feature on its iPhone 4. Reference is always made to the 1960s New York City World's Fair when the concept of a video/picture phone was implemented at the fair. That was cool then and was always the expectation that one day we would all have video/picture phones. See Jetsons or Dick Tracey or Star Trek, etc.
What Apple always does is popularizes a concept with a product that is perceived as a breakthrough. What Apple did THIS TIME is note in Steve Jobs keynote that Apple would be turning over their work with the iPhone 4 videophone capability to some standards authority for use and adoption by everyone. A major implementation problem with video/picture phones has been the lack of a standard operating protocol for all companies to use. Apple has started that ball rolling. So let's see what the response is from others and this standards board.
Everyone worldwide has been involved for a long time but what companies have been the major innovators in this regard?
