News Corp's Daily launches on Apple's iPad

>>I'm Caroline McCarthy from CNET news and we are at the Guggenheim Museum of art in New York where today News Corporation unveiled the The Daily. What it says is the first daily news publication optimized and designed specifically for Apple's iPad.

>>I'm pleased to welcome you to the launch of The Daily, a national news publication for the iPad that we have created from scratch.

>>Right now, the content from The Daily is available only on the iPad app and on the web behind a paywall. Currently there are no plans to release it on any other tablet devices, though Rupert Murdoch has said that when the tablet market beyond the iPad is a little bit more mature, that he wants to be on every major tablet device. As for subscription fees, The Daily costs $.99 per week, or $39.99 if you want to pay for an entire year up front. News Corp. executives made certain at the launch of The Daily that they want this product to be a completely new brand and a completely new experience. It's heavy on audio and video.

>>Hello, I'm Erin Aden assumed spelling. Welcome to the inaugural issue of The Daily.

>>As well as touch screen friendly features, like scrolling between different stories and clicking on interactive 360 degree photos. The content in the inaugural issue of The Daily is anchored by a cover story about the ongoing political upheaval in Egypt. But among some of the other headlines you can see are the snow storms that are all over the country right now, Natalie Portman's pregnancy, and a New York disco for dogs. But what excites me the most is there is a crossword puzzle. I'm Caroline McCarthy from CNET news.

What a waste of "programming" time in order to "develop" for the stupid iPad.

@s-Jerry

you're welcome to remain ignorant and swallow the twaddle the leftist media feeds you. That's the nice thing about capitalism; you're not forced to buy anything... except insurance, but that's not capitalism...

@hiraghm@...

Yawn. Your ideological huffing and puffing makes you sound 80 years old. Need a blankie?

This is just more lobotomized fare for Murdoch's easily gulled TV-minded non-thinkers. Line up for your digital swill; be sure to burp yourself.

@hiraghm@... how is fox news any different from MSNBC? other than the lies MSNBC feed you are left winged, and the lies fox tells you are right winged? I guess if you like being lied too you can buy it....
Don't trust any New Corp product to be unbiased.

@sah42
Absolutely! No matter where your news comes from, you should always verify and double-check what news they're presenting...

It's just a lot easier to do that with News Corp subsidiaries (such as Fox News) since they present news with an unmistakable bias for facts.

And now we reveal the problem with the Apple Store...

Way back in the dark ages, when cable was new, one of the advantages advertised was that there were *no commercials*... because you paid by the month. Now, of course, cable is loaded with commercials and you still pay for it.

News Corp has come out with this app, which I hope they come out with the equivalent for Android, and ooh, it's only 99 cents a week, cheaper than a printed paper!

Before long, there will be ads appearing in your news content. No problem, some enterprising person will come up with ad-blocker software...

Not so fast... this was created in cooperation between News Corp and Apple... and Apple must approve every app in the store. What are the odds that Apple will approve an app that removes ads and costs Apple, or one of their major partners, ultimately, revenue?
