The US government says one out of six people get sick from E. coli and other foodborne illnesses every year. So the USDA is launching an entertaining new ad campaign reminding Americans how to prepare foods safely. Food poisoning is more common during grilling season. With the Fourth of July approaching, the government is urging Americans to follow four steps: clean surfaces, utensils and your hands, separate raw meats from other food, cook meat to the right temperature, and chill food properly. Foodborne illness sends about 180,000 Americans to the hospital every year and it can be deadly. A recent E. coli outbreak in Europe killed almost 50 people. The government hopes the funny ads will catch people's attention. Perlow got the message.
