Silos, be gone

Today, I want to talk about a term that's very familiar tofarmers, that's familiar to people in IT, and let me tell you what's wrong withit. Silo. Too often corporations have all these little silos in which they haveapps and they have hardware and they have data and they are not connected inany way.

So imagine that you want to figure out, you know, how manycustomers you have in a certain geography, or whatever, and that information isin you know three or four places. Well, how are you going to get at that? Sothat's the problem that many companies face today and how do you solve it? I'lltell you how, right here. And that is the big problem that a lot of the moneyspent today is on integration and so a goal for a company has to be is to getrid of these Silos, get rid of them, and figure out a way to link up everythingso that all the data can be accessed, all of their hardware can be leveragedmore across a number of applications.

And this means that you have to move to the notion ofconsolidation, and Web services, and all these terms you hear about. So as yousee silos are an impediment to progress, and it's just going to cost you moreand more the longer you wait. So when you hear the term silo, run for cover.
