Vietnam plans to build a social network to engage its youth.

The country's prime minister Nguyen Tan Dung noted over 30 percent of Vietnam's population of 89 million use the Internet and most of these users are young people who are on social networks, according to a report Monday by Tuoi Tre News.

He was speaking at a meeting with the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in Hanoi over the weekend.

Building an online social network for Vietnamese youth was necessary, as many developed countries have recognized this as a way to engage the younger population, said Dung in the report.

At the meeting, Dung called for more attention to be paid to further educating young people in patriotism and the love for the nation and the love for the government.

The news comes less than a year after courts jailed three bloggers for posting political articles on a banned Vietnamese site and their own blogs, which were deemed as undermining the country's government and communist rule.

I am pretty sure the requirement for signing up to join this social media is to present some form of legal ID. Every member will then be known its residency and whereabouts.

Good luck for getting people on there!
