vKernel extends MSSC 2012 to VSphere and Red Hat

For multi-vendor environments, management tools that can extract information for the administrators from all of the supported environments are on the short list of things that the datacenter operator really needs. Quest announced this week support for their vkernel vOPS capacity planning and performance monitoring for MSSC Virtual machine manager which integrates with Hyper-V, vSphere, and Red Hat Enterprise virtualization.

Capacity planning is available across all hosts and can be used to identify capacity issues for the hosts and datastores and may be used for predictive planning purposes. The tool also allows the administrator to reserve capacity and deploy VMs into those reserved spots automatically.

Performance monitoring allows the administrator to get health information on al monitored physical hosts, VMs, and datastores. It’s possible to ID performance issues, monitor the performance of , and provide automatic remediation for performance problems.

The vOPS software is installed via Microsoft certified management packs that are auto-installed using the System Center integration setup process. The software is available in a full-blown Enterprise version and a somewhat less expensive and less capable standard version. For Microsoft System Center 2012 users who work in multivendor environments vOPS can deliver the information that makes their daily life a bit easier.
