Vocus expands Sydney datacentre
Vocus yesterday announced that it would expand its Sydney datacentre, because its existing Sydney facilities are approaching capacity.
The new datacentre will be called S3, and will have 425 square metres of space, increasing the company's existing Sydney datacentre space by 53 per cent. Having the datacentre in the same complex as the existing facility would reduce the cost to build and operate it, according to the company.
Vocus has also obtained an option to purchase another 1000 square metres of space and a "significant" power upgrade.
Vocus said that it has been planning the expansion for months, but only yesterday secured the lease and the power required for the site.
Construction is expected to start within 45 days, with the facility to be online by June this year.
"We have been experiencing tremendous demand for our flexible, high-density co-location services in Sydney, so we are very pleased to have the opportunity to expand the new facility at the same location," Vocus CEO James Spenceley said.
Vocus has been on a datacentre-buying rampage, snapping up E3's Sydney and Melbourne datacentres, as well as buying Perth datacentre company PerthIX.
Vocus also announced its results yesterday, touting revenues of $21.9 million for the half year to 31 December 2011, up 57 per cent from the $13.9 per cent the company earned in the previous corresponding period.
Net profit after tax was $4 million, up 66 per cent from $2.4 million.
