Vodafone Australia adds 1,200 sites to regional network
Vodafone Australia today announced that it has expanded its regional network by 40 percent, as it flicked the switch on 1,200 new regional sites across the country to add half a million square kilometres to its network footprint.
The telco's new sites are located in North Queensland; South West Queensland; the hinterland of the New South Wales North Coast; Central West NSW; South Eastern South Australia; Kalgoorlie and the Great Eastern Highway in Western Australia; South West WA and Coral Coast, WA; and across South East, South West, Central, and Western Victoria.
"Vodafone has made a significant investment in its 3G+ and 3G networks over the past 18 months, and announced a doubling of the size of [its] Australian call centre in Tasmania, which offers expert local customer service," said Vodafone chief technical officer Benoit Hanssen.
Vodafone has continued to see customers walk away from the telco, with the company reporting last month that it lost over half a million customers in the first half of 2013.
"The turnaround strategy anticipates customer losses to continue for the remainder of 2013, but our underlying churn rate is well within target, and our overall average revenue per user [ARPU] is on track," CEO Bill Morrow said in July.
"While there are continued challenges ahead, and plenty of work still to do, I'm very confident about the future of Vodafone, and extremely pleased with the progress made."
The telco announced last week that it would be capping global roaming charges to the UK, the US, and New Zealand at AU$5 per day.
