Vodafone on Monday relaunched its femtocell product, designed to improve indoor 3G coverage, rebranding the device as Sure Signal and cutting the price.

The femtocell — a small cellular base station — connects to Vodafone's network via the user's broadband connection and creates an area of 3G coverage within a home or office. The broadband connection must have a download speed of at least 1MB per second, Vodafone said.

Users can register up to 32 numbers to connect to the device via Vodafone's website, with four handsets supported at a time. The registered numbers can be changed in real-time via the website, Vodafone said.

Sure Signal supports all Vodafone's 3G handsets, but rivals' 3G handsets will not work with the device, the company said.

Sure Signal first launched in July as Vodafone Access Gateway, and was priced starting at £160 for home users. Vodafone is now offering the device for a one-off cost of £50, or £5 per month for a year, to home users on plans of £25 or more per month. For home users on plans of less than £25 per month, Sure Signal will cost £120, or £5 per month for 24 months.

For small businesses on plans of £21.26 or more per month, Sure Signal will cost a one-off fee of £42.56, or £4.26 per month for 12 months. And for small businesses on plans of less than £21.26 per month, the device costs £102, or £4.26 per month for 24 months.
