Wandera debuts enterprise mobile data optimization service

Summary: With $7 million in fresh funding, the startup takes the wraps off a service that it says will help companies manage the "explosion" of mobile data usage.

The startup company Wandera this morning announced the launch of a service that it says helps businesses manage the explosion of mobile data usage in their organizations.

The key buzzterm here is "mobile data optimization." Wandera says its new cloud-based platform uses adaptive data compression and real-time processing to reduce a company's mobile data usage and spend by "up to 60 percent." On top of that, the company is offering analytics around mobile data usage.

The value proposition: we'll save you money in an area where you feel like you don't have control — particularly when mobility is considered an enabler of employee productivity.

At a time when companies are spending more on mobility than ever before — mobile data usage in the enterprise has more than doubled year over year — it's the right move. Bessemer Venture Partners (Skype, Broadsoft, Box, LinkedIn) seems to agree, and this week gave the San Francisco and London-based company $7 million to fuel its expansion plans.
