Webcast: The future of BYOD and the Consumerization of IT

Summary: The BYOD trend and the consumerization of IT offer a whole host of risks and opportunities. Larry Dignan and Jason Hiner examine the issues and look at the future of BYOD in this webcast.

Five years ago, the "Bring Your Own Device" trend was a dirty little secret in the enterprise and something that CIOs and the traditional IT department viewed as a threat to security, efficiency, and best practices. Those days are over.

In some cases, IT has realized that it is virtually powerless to stop BYOD and so it has grudgingly figured out how to best mitigate the risks and make it work. In other cases, some IT departments have embraced the consumerization of IT and used it as a way to become the good guys who can help users safely connect their devices to company apps and platforms, and some IT departments have even become consultants in helping users choose the best devices.

In this edition of the IT Factor webcast, we discuss the current state of BYOD and the factors that are going to have the biggest impact on the future. We also discuss the conventional wisdom on the topic and advice for how IT departments can develop a winning approach to the issue. Along the way, we also discuss:

  • The new training paradigm
  • Mobile Device Management (MDM)
  • Collaboration software
  • Social enterprise solutions
  • The vendors making the biggest impact on BYOD
  • How BYOD changes the ways we work

Our colleague Juan Martinez serves as the moderator for this 30-minute discussion.

  • Not interested.

Not interested in an overtly biased and largely unquestioning viewpoint on the issue.
  • A classic case

... of businesses "externalizing" costs at the expense of the already beleaguered employees.
All the while proclaiming the "liberation" of employees and the "consumerization" of IT.

CFOs must love you guys pushing these propaganda lines for them.

Want to forward the liberation of your employees and the consumerization of business IT?
Then buy your emplyees the gear thy need for work, and allow them to us it in off hours for personal use.
    This whole movement is backwards.
