White Galaxy S II confirmed for Three and Vodafone

UK mobile operators Three and Vodafone have confirmed they will stock the white version of the successful Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone when it launches in September.

The device, which had previously only been rumoured to exist, will be released in the UK in September, Samsung confirmed on Friday.

Sales of the Galaxy S II have already topped more than five million units worldwide within three months and the addition of a white version will likely drive more sales of the device for UK operators, Three said.

"Samsung's Galaxy S II has been hot property this year, so there’s no doubt that this new variant will be very popular, especially amongst our customers who look for a little glamour alongside functionality," Three said on Friday.

Vodafone and Three have both confirmed that they will be selling the white device when it launches a little later in the year, but Vodafone was unable to provide any pricing or release details.

Three has been a little less coy with the specifics; though it could not specify when the handset will launch. However, it has said it will be available on a range of contract tariffs starting from £30 per month. It will also be available from Three on a pay-as-you-go basis for £499.99.

The device retains the same specs as the Samsung Galaxy S II, aside of the colour change, meaning it comes with an 8.1-megapixel camera, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch Super Amoled touchscreen and Android 2.3 — Gingerbread — under the bonnet.

A T-Mobile spokeswoman told ZDNet UK on Friday that it had not yet confirmed whether or not it would be stocking the device.

O2 and Orange were not available for comment at the time of writing.
