DVRs are set to change television viewing for 130 mln homes worldwide over the next five years. Cable, satellite and other digital TV providers had installed 17.4 mln DVRs globally by the end of 2005, and DVR manufacturers will enjoy annual sales of more than 40 mln units by 2010 as increasing numbers of viewers demand more flexibility in how they watch television. DVRs can already be found in 12% of US homes, and Strategy Analytics predicts that more than half of US consumers will have access to a DVR by 2010. The market has been slower to take off in Europe, but even in Europe 25% of homes will have DVRs by 2010, up from only 2% in 2005.
