38% of all mobile phones sold worldwide in 2005 are cameraphones

Global sales of camera phones are projected to reach 295.5 mln in 2005, according to Gartner. Phones with embedded cameras will make up 38% of all mobile phones shipped during 2005. Camera phones accounted for 14% of shipments in 2004. In North America, camera phone sales are likely to reach 70 mln units, or 47% of total phone sales, in 2005. In Europe this figure is 85 mln, or 55%, of total mobile phone sales. Almost 92% of all phones sold in Japan have a camera.
