3Com, Rockwell bury modem hatchet

3Com and Rockwell have reached agreement on the interoperability of their respective 56K modem technologies.

The two companies have been at odds over 56K standards for months, but have now completed interoperability testing in a joint bid to kick start the sluggish modem market.

Many consumers have been hesitant about investing in 56K technology, concerned that they will end up with a product that does not talk to all other modems.
