500 mln cameraphones sold in 2005, 900 mln by 2009

Consumers are expected to buy 500 mln cameraphones in 2005, which amounts to 2/3 mobile phones purchased. Future Image says that 5 out of every 6 digital cameras sold in 2005 would be embedded in phones. The buying spree is expected to continue at least through 2009, when camera-phone sales are expected to rise to 900 mln units, or 90% of the 1 bln mobile phones projected to be sold in 2009.
