Everybody knows Yahoo!. Considered by many to be one of the leading global Internet communications, commerce and media companies, it is one of the most popular search engines for PC users.

All this popularity has not come without cost. Yahoo! recently found itself in the position of needing to back up its vast amounts of data and information it has accumulated over the years in its different localized portals. Its goal was to look for somebody who could provide a global and comprehensive backup and recovery solution for Yahoo!'s enterprise environment, worldwide data centers and mobile computing devices.

NO

To solve this problem, they turned to Veritas Software Corporation. They have chosen to run VERITAS NetBackup DataCenter to protect the varied server and operating system platforms of Yahoo!'s global information architecture, and VERITAS NetBackup Professional to provide a proper mirroring solution for the computer equipment of Yahoo! employees. Yahoo! hopes that Veritas will be able to protect the desktop and mobile laptop computers of their workforce as well as automate and streamline data protection and the recovery of data when they log on to the company network.

According to Farzad Nazem, senior vice president of communications and technical services of Yahoo!, it was Veritas’s ability to provide a single, integrated data protection solution across Yahoo!'s multiple platforms and applications ensuring 24 hour access 7 days a week to their users and to Yahoo! staff that made them attractive. "The VERITAS NetBackup solution safeguards our data whether it resides on a desktop, laptop or a data center server," he said.

VERITAS hoped that its NetBackup family of data protection products that was designed to reliably manage and protect enormous amounts of data integral to the smooth running of business would solve Yahoo!’s problems. As Neal Ater, senior vice president, Data Protection Group, VERITAS Software said, "We're pleased to provide Yahoo! with a solution that not only meets their data protection needs now, but can scale to meet their future needs."
