A Year Ago: Macromedia wakes up to Linux

According to Internet graphics firm Macromedia, its new Flash player for Linux and Solaris will allow Web surfers "to view beautiful, fast-downloading, vector-based graphics"... with Macromedia's Flash authoring software released today.

Many Linux lovers will be relieved that Macromedia has woken up to the promise of Linux, including Robert Young, CEO of Linux distributor Red Hat Software who said: "This is a logical step for Macromedia, considering they opened the Flash file format last spring and have long been on the leading edge in the Web publishing space."
