Microsoft has been pushing OEMs to make inexpensive laptops , presumably to compete with Chromebooks. A $200 laptop running Windows could be appealing to those on a budget.

The Acer Aspire E-11 is a laptop available from Amazon for $199 that packs a surprising amount of utility for that low price. It has an Intel Celeron processor, 2GB of memory, a 32GB SSD and an 11.6-inch screen.
Acer Aspire E-11 specs:
CPU | Intel Celeron 2.16 GHz |
OS | Windows 8.1 |
Display | 11.6-inch; 1366 x 768 |
Memory/storage | 2GB/32GB |
Connectivity | 802.11 b/g/n |
Dimensions | 11.46 x 9.31 x 0.83 inches |
Weight | 2.84 lbs |
The E-11 is no powerhouse by any means, but may be what some people are looking for. Windows 8.1 runs nicely on low-end processors like the Celeron powering this laptop. While sufficient for general use, this could be the perfect Windows laptop for those wanting to play with the Windows 10 preview .
The E-11 looks like the Acer C720 Chromebook, which is very well made. I've owned the C720 for a while and I find the hardware — which is similar to the E-11 — very good for the price. Acer makes great laptops for a low price and the E-11 should be no different. The low storage capacity will make cloud use mandatory for most.
Battery life is quoted at five hours which is not very long, but reasonable for such an inexpensive laptop.
The Acer Aspire E-11 is available currently for $199 from Amazon, with free shipping.
