ACS continues push into Africa

Affiliated Computer Services on Thursday said it would build a new facility in Ghana that will allow the company to expand its staff in the African nation to more than 2,000 by the end of 2004. ACS, which provides information technology and business process outsourcing services, said it plans to build a 40,000-square-foot office complex in Accra. The Dallas-based company, which began operations in Ghana in 2000, has nearly 1,300 employees there performing data processing services for clients in the communications, healthcare and insurance industries. ACS has more than 40,000 employees worldwide.

IT outsourcing refers to the farming out by companies of tasks such as data center management or help desk support. Business process outsourcing involves hiring another company to handle call center operations, accounting and similar functions. ACS is one of several technology services providers expanding its operations overseas.
