Google has given administrators of the free version of Google Apps access to several capabilities that were before only available to Google Apps for Business admins.
On Friday, Google Apps product manager Muzammil Esmail wrote in a blog post that the advanced control panel features being opened up to a wider admin audience include delegated administration, multi-domain support and fine-grained user policy management.
"These features have been well-received by the administrator community and we've seen healthy adoption among Google Apps for Business customers where these capabilities are helpful," Esmail wrote. "Starting today, millions of organizations using our free Google Apps service can begin taking advantage of these capabilities and many more as well."
However, Esmail added that certain features of Google Apps for Business, such as '24x7' support, 25GB mailboxes, email routing and advanced reporting and migration tools, will continue to be available only to users of the paid-for version of Google's cloud-based productivity suite.
