Looking to get some low-cost online storage? How does an unlimited amount for one year priced at $5 grab you?
BetaNews noticed that on Black Friday, Amazon is offering that very deal, provided you make a $50 Amazon purchase in certain product categories.
According to this Amazon page, spend $50 or more on a camera, PC, Gaming PC, video game or kitchen goods will get you the deal, providing unlimited Amazon Cloud Drive storage for 12 months at a cost of $5.
Amazon is also offering a year's worth of unlimited cloud storage just for photos as part of the deal, however, Amazon Prime members get that as part of their Prime membership already.
With so many cloud storage options available to consumers, this is a smart play by Amazon.
It raises awareness of the product to many people, although businesses are likely already familiar with AWS, or Amazon Web Services. And the price special vastly undercuts similar offerings from Apple, Google and Microsoft, perhaps giving those using the latter option something to think about since Microsoft promised and then revoked its unlimited OneDrive storage deal for Office 365 subscribers earlier this month.
Amazon hasn't said how long the unlimited Cloud Drive deal will last - my guess is that it's a one day special - and unfortunately for those in outside of the U.S., it's a no go: The $5 unlimited storage plan is only available for Amazon customers in the U.S.
