Speculation that Amazon would be the next company to toss a its own tablet into the increasingly-competitive tablet market has ramped up significantly in recent weeks. And the company's CEO Jeff Bezos is only adding to it.
In an interview with Consumer Reports, Bezos responded to the question of whether Amazon would ever launch its own multi-purpose tablet with a coy "stay tuned." Though neither a confirmation nor denial, Bezos response is clearly different from the usual "we have nothing to announce at this time" response. But the statement may be all anyone really needs to confirm what we've already expected: Amazon's tablet is coming - and soon.
But what about the Kindle? Wouldn't a multi-purpose Amazon tablet effectively replace Amazon's currently massively popular breadwinner? Fortunately, Bezos soothes the fear over the future of its prized tablet. “We will always be very mindful that we will want a dedicated reading device,” Bezos said. “In terms of any other product introductions, I shouldn’t answer.”
An Amazon tablet, then, would be offered alongside the Kindle, not in place of it. You can now breathe easy, Kindle fans.
