The top e-tailer appears to be keeping its options open on the car sales front

Amazon.com may be looking at selling cars.

In the last few months the company has bought up several automobile-related domain names, including usedcarsamazon.com, usedcarsamazon.co.uk, newcarsamazon.com and newcarsamazon.co.uk. Amazon does not, however, own the domain name amazoncars.com.

The new and used car market has already been explored by such sites as Microsoft's CarPoint.com, and Amazon, which already sells gardening tools, art objects and shampoo, is always expanding its range.

Amazon has announced no plans to open any used car lots, a spokeswoman said. Amazon has, however, also approached UK car retailers over auto sales, according to a report in e-commerce industry magazine Revolution.
