ANSTO seeks new telco

Australia's nuclear agency has placed the telecommunications spend it currently allocates to Telstra on the market, as the agency looks to bed down its needs for potentially the next six years.

The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation is the nation's peak nuclear research and development organisation. According to its Web site, the agency has around 860 staff and holds responsibility for some of the nation's most high-profile scientific and medical facilities.

In tender documents released yesterday, ANSTO said it was currently seeking a telco supplier for a number of voice and data carriage services. ZDNet Australia understands those services are currently being provided by Telstra.

In particular, ANSTO needs landline services provided to its Lucas Heights and Camperdown, NSW facilities, in addition to mobile services.

ANSTO will decide where to allocate its telco spend in early December, with the new contract cutting over in February next year. Subject to an annual review process, the agency could remain with the same supplier until 2013.
