Apple engineers are trying to solve issues with the iPhone 4S's battery life by reaching out to owners of the new device.
Some people are seeing a marked difference in battery life between their device and the figures given by Apple when it launched the iPhone 4S in early October, according to The Guardian.
"My battery life was extremely poor — 10% drop in standby every hour," one owner told The Guardian. They then wrote a post about it and were contacted by a senior Apple engineer who asked them questions. Eventually the owner agreed to let the engineer install a file on the phone to gather data.
"I extracted the file from my Mac after a sync and emailed it to him," the owner said. "He was incredibly helpful and apologetic in the typical Apple way!"
The problem is ongoing. Apple's support forum is populated with posts discussing battery issues that have affected the device.
