Apple launches refreshed 15-inch MacBook Pro, new iMac with Retina 5K Display

The new MacBook Pro, equipped with the new Force Touch trackpad, is touted as faster and longer-lasting.

Apple has refreshed its MacBook Pro line with an updated 15-inch model complete with the Force Touch trackpad.

Announced on Tuesday, the new lineup revolves around a new 15-inch MacBook with Retina display. The 15-inch MacBook Pro's flash storage has been given a boost, upgraded with technologies which make the flash storage "up to 2.5 times faster," according to the firm.

In addition, Apple has refreshed the MacBook Pro's components to give users an additional hour of battery life and a better experience in photo editing and gaming due to the inclusion of AMD Radeon R9 M370X graphics.

The new model is also equipped with the iPad and iPhone maker's Force Touch trackpad, which includes built-in sensors to give users the option to customize the amount of pressure clicks and gestures require. Starting at $1999, the new MacBook Pro can be customised with 2.2GHz, 2.5GHz or 2.8GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processors and up to 1TB flash storage.

In addition to the new MacBook Pro, the tech giant has also introduced a new iMac computer. Available for $1,999, the new iMac features a Retina 5K display with a resolution of 5120 x 2880 pixels, which Apple says is 67 percent more pixels than a 4K display.

The iMac is also equipped with a 3.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor -- with Turbo Boost speeds of up to 3.7GHz -- and AMD Radeon R9 M290 graphics. The iMac includes 8GB memory, 1TB storage and comes with four USB 3.0 ports and two Thunderbolt 2 ports.

The top end of Apple's iMac line has also been dropped in price, and can now be purchased at a starting price of $2,229. The highest model features a Retina 5K display, 3.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor -- with Turbo Boost speeds of up to 3.9 GHz -- AMD Radeon R9 M290X graphics and a 1TB Fusion Drive.

Every Mac fresh off the production line comes with the OS X Yosemite operating system.

The updated 15-inch MacBook is available today online and in stores.

Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing said in prepared remarks:

"The response to the new MacBook and updated 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display has been amazing, and today we are thrilled to bring the new Force Touch trackpad, faster flash storage and longer battery life to the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display.
