With an Apple news event only days away, rumors are rife as to what new delights will be unveiled to tempt people to part with their cash. Let's take a quick tour of what's being predicted:
- New Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
The clue's on the invite sent out to journalists:
See, we've had "Cheetah," "Puma," "Jaguar," "Panther," "Tiger," "Leopard" and "Snow Leopard" so the picture of a new cat is a pretty big clue to the fact that there's going to be some talk of a new OS. Don't get too excited though, this is going to be a preview ... the release could (and probably is) be about a year away.
Probability of a Mac OS X 10.7 announcement: 99.9999%
- New Mac hardware
Remember, when Apple says "Mac," that means more than just the OS. Mac is hardware too. There's no doubt going to be hardware announcements, but Mac is a big hardware ecosystem so let's try to narrow things down.
Probability of a Mac hardware announcement: 99.9999%
- New MacBook Air
This piece of hardware is overdue for a revamp as it was launched more than a year ago. Smaller, thinner, lighter, faster and with longer battery life and possibly a lighter price tag are the current best guesses out there. Also there's lot of chatter about a MacBook Air with a smaller screen.
Probability of a MacBook Air announcement: 80%
- New CPU and GPU options
The hardware landscape has changed a lot lately, so I wouldn't be surprised to see new CPU and GPU offerings being announced.
Probability of a CPU/GPU announcement: 65%
- New software
Lots of possibilities here - new iWorks, new iLife, Facetime coming to Macs ...
Probability of a software announcement: 85%
- White iPhone
Nope, not yet ... maybe a mention or a tease, but nothing else.
Probability of a white iPhone announcement: 5%
