Appliance now scans custom Web apps

Beyond-IP offers both remote and deployed vulnerability assessment services.

Beyond-IP announced earlier this month a new version of its Automated Vulnerability Assessment and Management appliance, which now scans Web sites for security holes in custom Web applications, as well as for vulnerabilities in commercial products such as Web servers or operating systems.

The new feature complements the appliance's current abilities to scan at the database, operating system and network levels, according to Beyond-IP.

Beyond-IP offers both remote and deployed vulnerability assessment (VA) services based on its VA appliances and servers. Either method checks and exposes vulnerabilities inside private corporate LAN and WAN network environments.

In the deployed service, a dedicated appliance and or server is configured, updated and maintained by Beyond-IP. The scan and test results are sent directly to the network administrator. The appliance or server does not have to be connected to the Internet.

The service scans all visible nodes on the network including workstations, servers, routers and other network appliances. The Beyond-IP appliance is updated daily or weekly via a secure automated pull method from Beyond-IP's update server. Updates can be performed by CD if Internet connectivity is unavailable or is against security policy.

Reports of periodic or on-demand scans summarize vulnerabilities found on the network, show differences from previous scans, and suggest solutions. Reports can be customized.

Chicago-based Beyond-IT is the North American arm of Beyond Security, Ltd of Netanaya, Israel, which also operates the Securiteam.com [http://securiteam.com/ ] portal, a security information posting area. Beyond Security uses the information gleaned from Securiteam.com to update its own appliances daily.

The VA service is currently available. Pricing for the remote scanning service ranges from $2,500 annually for 25 IPs through $78,000 for 2,000 IPs. One-time fees for deployed hardware are $1,200 per appliance (capacity 256 IPs) and $1,500 for a 2048-IP capacity server.
