ARM profits double in Q3

Royalty revenues double ARM's profit margin

UK microchip designer ARM Holdings announced Wednesday it had doubled pre-tax profits in the third quarter year on year to £8.8m. The company is attributing higher royalty revenues to the increase.

ARM raked in a massive £26.4m in Q3, a 68 percent increase on the same period last year.

The UK company licenses its designs to manufacturers of chips that run mobile phones and other wireless and electronic devices. One hundred million chips were produced from ARM licences in the third quarter of this year -- three times the number shipped by 30 November in 1999.
