Asus enters e-commerce market in China, Taiwan

Taiwanese PC maker sets up 80:20 joint venture with e-commerce vendor, Uitox, to offer its ZenFone mobile phones via an Asus e-store targeting China and Taiwan.

Asustek has entered the e-commerce market with an e-store that offers its ZenFone mobile phones to the Chinese and Taiwanese markets.

The Taiwanese PC maker launched a joint venture, Asus Digital International (ADI), in which it will hold a 80 percent stake while partner and e-commerce vendor, Uitox, will own the remaining shares, according to a report by China Times. Slated to open in the first half of April, ADI will operate as an Asua e-store offering the company's ZenFone mobile phones.

The move follows the success of Chinese phonemaker, Xiaomi , which strong growth had been driven by its direct online sales model.

Hsieh Chen-feng has been appointed CEO of ADI. He was previously COO of PChome and founded Uitox in 2013, which operates local sites in Singapore, China, and Taiwan.
