Want to use the Internet wherever you go when abroad? It will cost you, but at least it might be a little less confusing as AT&T has announced new pay-as-you-go international data plans for laptops and netbooks.

The AT&T DataConnect Pass Global offers up data service in over 100 countries around the world.

Packages are available for 30-day session increments, and the cost is promised to be "significantly lower than pay-per-use service." Let's take a look at our four options:

  • DataConnect Pass Global 20MB for $24.99
  • DataConnect Pass Global 50MB for $59.99
  • DataConnect Pass Global 100MB for $119.99
  • DataConnect Pass Global 200MB for $199.99

While AT&T insists this could be useful for travelers (perhaps at least in an emergency), these prices are still a bit over-the-top. If you need the Internet this badly while abroad, it must be for business.

Nevertheless, these passes can be purchased online using a debit or credit card. Thus, either sign up before departure or when you get some free Wi-Fi access at the airport or hotel. However, you must be an existing AT&T netbook or laptop customer to take advantage of this offer. Happy travels!
