Networking products manufacturer and marketer NETGEAR, Inc. , (not shouting, but just spelling things right) is teaming with communications systems solutions provider Avaya to develop an IP telephony solution for small businesses with 20 users or less.

The solution involves Avaya Quick Edition peer-to-peer technology, which includes Avaya phones that contain software for business communications without the need for a central phone server or PBX. Hey, we are talking about auto attendant, conferencing, a single inbox for voice and e-mail messages, and the ability to have office calls ring on a mobile phone.

NETGEAR's role is in the network infrastructure part of this solution.  We're talking  Smart Switches with power over Ethernet (PoE) capability that can remotely power Avaya phones, as well as a NETGEAR VPN firewall for secure communications from and to remote teleworkers for such businesses.
