The visualization was created by comparing 8 million public tax records from 2006-2007.
Now, you could analyze this data to show how dynamic and ever-changing cities are, but there aren't enough of the fascinating bits at the end of the video about how older people don't move as far or how rich people move to big cities, so I think you should just enjoy the video.
Being a sucker for data visualization, I'd like to see someone take this information about U.S. migration and make a similar animation.
