Technology is Great Britain: UK Government campaign

The British Business Embassy, set up by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) to capitalise on global interest in the London Olympics, will open an online showcase of the "Best of British" information and communications technology on 3 August. The showcase will be launched at the Global Business Summit on ICT, which is being held at Lancaster House in London on that day, but will run for six months.

The agenda for the Global Business Summit on ICT (PDF) includes a talk on London 2012: Delivering the Digital Experience, plus panels on digital innovation and digital infrastructure. Participating organisations and companies include ARM, BBC, BT, Cisco, CSR, Huawei Europe, IBM, Imperial College, LOCOG, Logica, Qualcomm Europe, Samsung Electronics UK, Sophos and Telefonica O2 UK.

The virtual showcase will feature about a hundred online exhibitors, and will use 6connex's collaborative technology. The company says: "The virtual platform can be accessed not only from the British Business Embassy, but from any other location in the world. Key functions include the ability to message others and chat by video, voice and text, with text messages being automatically translated into the language of choice. There is also a sophisticated search facility, which enables you to home in on the people and subjects that interest you the most."

Topics include energy, heath, education, creative content and advanced engineering. The government expects "over 3,000 Government Minsters, business leaders and policy-makers from the UK and around the world will come through the doors of Lancaster House" between 27 July and 7 September.

The various summits are being webcast live on YouTube, and tweeted live by BritishBusinessClub at @BritBizClub

British Embassies overseas will also run local events to promote British business, supported by the GREAT advertising campaign developed by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
