A ZDNet story that originated with Consulting Newsbuilds an intriguing mystery.

Why haven't big consulting firms pursued the open source opportunity?

Consulting News, based in London, features news about many big consultancies on its home page, but this story is an interview withMark Taylor, executive director of the Open Source Consortium, whose membership roll is a who's who of who's that.

Here's the money quote, from Taylor. 'Im amazed, he says. The big consultancies should be all over it and if they are not then the existing consultancies will be.'

Fortune 500 enterprises are not going to switch to open source without a consultant of scale by their side, regardless of technical merits.

Yet the big consultants aren't stepping up to the plate, Taylor says.

Why not?
