The BlackBerry PlayBook is finally available to buy in the US following its initial announcement seven months ago.
The 7-inch, 16GB, Wi-Fi-only PlayBook costs $500 (£306.81) and is available to buy directly from Research In Motion's (RIM) website or from selected retailers, including Best Buy and Staples.
Doubling storage to 32GB takes the price to $599, while taking it to the maximum 64GBs of storage makes the total cost $699. 3G and 4G versions of the tablet are expected to launch later in the year.
Similarly, RIM's first tablet is not yet available in the UK; with no firm release date in sight. In January, Alex Kinsella, senior product manager at RIM, told ZDNet UK that a UK release would closely follow the US launch.
"We haven't given out any timing... You can draw conclusions that the UK is an important market for us; things tend to come out quite soon in the UK," Kinsella said.
At the end of March, RIM announced that it was going to let Android apps run on the QNX-based PlayBook via an "app player".
