BlackBerry has launched the latest version of its enterprise mobile device management (MDM) solution: BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10.1.
Released for download at today's BlackBerry Live event in Orlando, Florida, the smartphone maker supports the next-generation BlackBerry 10 and 10.1 smartphones , iPhones, iPads and Android-based devices.
BlackBerry chief operating officer Kristian Tear said at the event: "BlackBerry has security baked in from the ground up. We start thinking about it all the way back to our supply chain."
The company noted that 12,000 BES 10 servers have been installed by customers worldwide since it was first launched in January.
The enterprise MDM service, commonly known as just BES, will add better security, greater IT policy options, and a new dashboard for administrators to get a glimpse of all the devices connected to the network. Enterprise deployment has also been simplified, with BES 5 customers able to quickly upgrade to BES 10.1 with no firewall changes.
Today's changes notably include "regulated-level" IT policy controls and settings, particularly useful for government agencies, whose employees have different levels of vetting and security clearances. It also includes control, logging and auditing as per local legal requirements.
The update is free for all customers who already use BES 10. BlackBerry said that BES 5 client access licenses can be exchanged for BES 10.1 for free through 2013.
