Blog Reader: "Local VoIP Number? Oh Yea?"

The chorus of applause for Vonage apparently doesn't include Robert Pruitt, who e-mailed me this morning. Pruitt said when he signed up for Vonage service, he was told that Vonage served his local community of Beaufort, South Carolina.

Sayeth Bob:

"I was told by Vonage that they served my area and that I would have a local number. I was told wrong! I was given a Charleston exchange number ...(ed. note: 70 miles away according to Yahoo! Maps) and it is long distance for any of my local customers to call me.

"I complained to Vonage," added Pruitt,"and was told they would not be adding local exchange numbers anytime within the near future (3 to 5 years). This is absolutly amazing to me considering they are advertising locally and have kiosks set up in the local big box office supply store.

"So far I am NOT pleased with their service."

Have any of you had similar experiences?
