AMR Research looks at the current IT functions required by US companies and says that over the next 6 years 15% of those jobs will migrate to India. Companies reinvest 60% of cost savings attributed to outsourcing in IT or business unit projects. By 2010, savings from offshore outsourcing will spark an added $30 billion per year. There will be more than 3 million IT jobs in India by 2010, and half of the workers will be working for an American company. Companies that effectively outsource to India can reduce the cost of data center operations, help desk support and other nonstrategic activities by 40-50%, AMR Research said.
