He will take over from William McCracken, who is set to retire in March next year at the age of 70. McCracken began his tenure as CEO in January 2010.

The newly selected CEO will join CA next month, and McCracken will assist in his transition until March. McCracken will also continue consulting for CA until December 2013 to assist in the transition.

Gregoire has worked in the software and IT industry for 25 years, and most recently helmed talent management software company Taleo Corp, which was acquired by Oracle this year.

He has also worked for PeopleSoft and EDS.

"We are very pleased to have hired someone of Gregoire's calibre," CA's board of directors Chairman Arthur Weinbach said in a statement. "He clearly stood out in the field of candidates we considered, bringing to CA a compelling track record of success, leadership skills, operating expertise, and software industry vision."

"We expect CA employees, customers, and partners to benefit from his leadership, years of experience in the software industry, and customer focus."

Gregoire will be relocating to New York for his new role.
