CAD giant to create 1,800 Scottish jobs

A CAD software and services giant is to create 1,800 jobs over five years in Livingston, Scotland, according to a report in yesterday's Sunday Times.

San Jose, California-based Cadence Design Systems will open a chip design training centre for engineers in Livingston in what Scottish development bodies hope will be a rival to Silicon Glen, the area of Scotland that accounts for manufacturing a huge number of Europe's PCs.

The deal is expected to have a formal announcement on Wednesday.
