Global demand for mobile phones is expected to rise 5.8% to 479.

Global demand for mobile phones is expected to rise 5.8% to 479.4 mil units in 2004, fueled by strong customer growth in developing markets such as China and India, a Japanese industry group said on Wednesday. That compares to an estimated 453.0 mil units in 2003, a 10.9% increase from the year before, the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA) said.
