It is very easy to criticize mainland China software engineers and system administrators for their lack of enthusiasm, passion and above all else, creativity. However, this does not imply that the mainland is suffering from a brain drain.

It is very easy to criticize mainland China software engineers and system administrators for their lack of enthusiasm, passion and above all else, creativity. However, this does not imply that the mainland is suffering from a brain drain. Actually, quite the opposite can be said for China. China is loaded with talented and intelligent developers and engineers, capable of unraveling the most daunting of technological challenges.

In terms of open source, there is an active community, albeit very quiet and lacking spirited individuals like the Richard Stallmans whom we have come to recognize as the faces in the open source world. This community may not be giving Microsoft any sleepless nights, but by visiting the sites below, it is pretty evident, for those that can at least read Chinese, that there is a sustainable community in China:

LinuxSir Linux Eden Linux Fans Club

LinuxSir and Linux Fans Club are pretty common blog-style sites where local users can search a variety of topics and follow links to a number of different download sites. Linux Eden, on the other hand, makes more of an effort to be a portal site with more regularly updated content and even a couple adverts, or "sponsors", who are probably the main editors of the site.
