Worldwide chip sales fell just 19.4 per cent in April compared to the previous year, a sign say industry analysts that the chip downturn is abating. According to the Semiconductor Industry Association sales fell to $11.1bn from 13.7bn the previous April. It is the smallest year-on-year decline to be reported since June 2001, and was three per cent up on sales for March. By most estimates global chip sales slumped last year by over 30 per cent.
