Cisco launches Managed Threat Defense security service

Cisco has launched a new solution to guard businesses against intrusions and advanced persistent threats.

Cisco has launched Managed Threat Defense, a service designed to protect business networks against a variety of digital security issues.

Modern-day businesses are now expected to have a presence online and are more readily adopting technology such as cloud computing, mobility and the Internet of Things (IoT). As devices and networks become connected across a variety of operating systems, devices and users, the chance of a network being breached is now no longer just a possibility -- it is often the case that firms must constantly defend against attack and have damage control measures in place.

According to the 2014 Cisco Annual Security Report , in a sample of 30 of the world's largest multinational company networks, all shared the fact their organization had traffic going to websites that hosted malware. Cisco researchers suggest that we could be facing "unprecedented growth" for advanced malicious attacks in the coming year.

The cloud provider says that the new service, Managed Threat Defense, will help protect companies in real-time scenarios and as today's cybercrime rates grow. is a managed security solution which applies real-time, predictive analytics to detect attacks and protect against advanced malware across customers' extended networks.

Managed Threat Defense comprises of hardware, software and analytics which monitor, capture, and analyze threats. Cisco's security operations centers (SOCs) monitor the data provided by the service and provide incident response analysis, escalation, and remediation recommendations. The subscription-based service also uses Hadoop 2.0 to apply predictive analytics to detect anomalous patterns in networks, detects unknown attacks through streaming telemetry, and provides incident tracking.

Managed Threat Defense is available directly from Cisco in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Japan.
