Cisco leads security appliance pack in Q1, Palo Alto Networks surges

IDC data shows that security appliance revenue is surging due to cyberattack concerns. Cisco, Check Point, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet and Blue Coat are the top 5 players.

Security appliance sales surged 7.4 percent in the first quarter to $2.3 billion, shipments jumped 9.4 percent and Cisco continued to lead the pack, according to IDC data.

IDC reported that security appliance sales grew for the 22nd consecutive quarter.

On the global front, the U.S. represented 42.9 percent of revenue in the first quarter with 15.6 percent sales growth Western Europe saw revenue gain 9.8 percent in the first quarter and Latin America was up 4.8 percent. Asia Pacific saw revenue growth of 9.8 percent led by Huawei.
